Customers can now pay by M-Pesa from the invoice

Connect a payout account and your invoices get a Pay button. Customers pay with M-Pesa from the invoice link, and the invoice marks itself paid.

Sending the invoice was never the slow part. Waiting for the M-Pesa message, matching it to the right invoice and marking it paid by hand was. Now your customer pays from the invoice itself, and Travada Books does the rest.

Pay from the invoice link

Switch on payments and the invoice your customer opens gets a Pay button. They tap it and approve with their M-Pesa PIN, the same as any other payment on their phone. Customers can also pay by card.

Marked paid on its own

When a payment goes through, it's recorded against the invoice with the M-Pesa receipt code, the invoice is marked paid, and the payment lands in your transactions, linked to the invoice. You get a notification as soon as the money comes in, so there's nothing to check or match up later.

Part payments, on your terms

You decide whether customers can pay an invoice in parts. If you allow it, set the rules once in your invoice settings:

  • a minimum for each payment, as a percentage or an amount
  • a deposit for the first payment
  • a deadline for the rest, a number of days after the due date
  • the most payments an invoice can take

Your customer then chooses between the full balance and part of it, and the Pay sheet only accepts amounts that fit your rules. Each part payment shows on the invoice as it arrives, with the balance left.

Getting paid out

Go to Settings → Integrations → M-Pesa payments and add where you want to be paid: a bank account or an M-Pesa number. We check the payout details first, usually within one business day, and then payments switch on.

Payments are processed by Paystack, which pays you out within two business days, minus its fee: 1.5% on M-Pesa and 2.9% on local cards. Travada Books takes nothing.

Then switch on Accept payments in your invoice settings. It becomes the default for new invoices, and you can still turn it off, or on, for any single invoice.
